Extract Text

Reads the embedded text from each page and gives you a clean .txt file. Works on text-based PDFs (use OCR for scans).

100% Private Fast Works Offline

Text extraction pulls every word out of a digital PDF as plain text — so you can copy a quote, feed content into another app, or repurpose a document without retyping.

How to extract text

  1. 1

    Add your PDF

Drop in a PDF that contains real, selectable text.

  2. 2

    Extract the text

The tool reads the words out of the document in seconds.

  3. 3

    Copy or download

Select the extracted text or save it as a plain-text file.

Everything runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded — there’s no server to send it to, no sign-up, and nothing to delete afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work on scanned PDFs?
Only if the PDF already contains real text. For scans that are just images of pages, use the OCR tool instead, which reads text from the picture.
Will the formatting be preserved?
Extraction gives you the raw words as plain text — great for searching and reuse, but layout, columns, and styling aren't carried over.
Can I extract text from one page only?
The tool pulls text from the whole document; you can then copy just the section you need from the result.
Is my PDF uploaded to extract the text?
No. Text is read out of the file directly in your browser.
